Fujitsu uses recycled CDs / DVDs in its latest laptops

Recycled CDsFujitsu have today announced that they will be making laptops out of recycled CDs.

The CDs / DVDs are made from polycarbonate, a type of plastic suitable for use in the bodies of notebook PCs. Moreover, they do not include any contaminants, such as flame retardants, so they were deemed to be a suitable material for recycling.

Fujitsu plans to expand the use of their recycling system to support a wider variety of recycled materials in addition to CDs and DVDs and to employ these plastics in other products.

The green initiative reduces their need for new plastic by around 10 tons per year and cuts their CO2 emissions by approximately 15%.

Fujitsu implemented the programme during the production of its Lifebook P772/E enterprise laptop, constructing the machine’s casing from melted-down discs.

More information can be found on the Fujitsu website.
